Dear friends

As we celebrate Christ’s resurrection together, I write to update you on some developments and news.

Deanery Debt Advice Ministry

Based in central Ormskirk, the West Lancashire Debt Advice ministry is up and running. Clients are being seen and help offered by the trained volunteers from a number of local churches. As you may recall, this important ministry is accredited and overseen by Community Money Advice, a national Christian charity.

The ministry will be formally opened by the Bishop of Warrington on Saturday 27th April. The Mayor & Mayoress of West Lancashire, MP and invited guests will attend the launch.

Annual Church Meeting

Please do come along to the Annual Church Meeting on April 23rd @ 7.30pm. Elections for a new church warden and representatives on the PCC (Parochial Church Council) will be held. Nomination forms are on the notice board in the West End

Following the elections and the approval of our 2012 accounts, the evening will be devoted to sharing real stories about our ministry in Burscough and beyond. Members of the staff team will speak briefly about their work over the past year. I will share some comments and also speak about future plans as we seek to honour Christ and serve Him together. This is an important and encouraging evening which I hope you will be able to attend.

Church Hall Development

Next week, work begins on the next phase of the agreed development of the church hall. The work has been approved by the PCC and is within budget. The development is being funded from an agreed amount from church reserves but money is tight.

Two rooms will be constructed within the large hall area – one for Joanna & Christine our Youth and Children’s Co-ordinators, the other for a meeting room for Sunday/midweek groups and pastoral work. Jean our Parish Administrator and volunteer assistants will move into a new office formed from existing storage areas which will also house our office equipment such as the photocopier. The main hall will be upgraded with a new suspended ceiling and floor covering, new doors and radiators.

The work is scheduled to last approximately a month. When completed, the current offices in the church will be used by the finance team, Ben Dyer and others who may require space for ministry.

The relocation to the church hall is designed to support and release our growing ministry. As funds allow, we propose to continue the development. Plans have been drawn up but we do not have sufficient funds currently. I will share more about this at the Annual Church Meeting.

As we continue to be wise stewards, I write to seek your help. We need to complete the interior painting of the new areas within the hall. If you would like to offer your time and skill, I’d be delighted if you would kindly contact David Orritt (tel: 01704 892566, email: Thank you.

Food Bank & The Oaks, Skelmersdale

Thank you for your continuing support for this important ministry. Donations of food can be given to the green box that is in the West End by the bookshelves. At the Annual Church Meeting on Tuesday April 23rd, Duncan Petty will speak briefly about the Food Bank and the ministry of Oaks in Skelmersdale that we help to support as a church.

The Greenwood Family

As has been announced in February, our curate Ian Greenwood has been appointed as Priest in Charge of St Anne’s, Aigburth. Ian’s last Sunday at St John’s will be 19th May and there will be a celebration lunch in the hall/field following the 11am service. Further details to follow. Also there will be an opportunity to contribute to a leaving gift for Ian and the family, which will be coordinated by the wardens after Easter.

Thank you for your continued partnership in ministry as well as for your support and prayers.

In His Love

Rev. Richard Jones, Vicar
