Opening Prayer

Most merciful God,

who by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ delivered and saved the world:

grant that by faith in him who suffered on the cross we may triumph in the power of his victory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Could you sit and clean one another’s shoes or working together clean a room in the house?  Consider the following questions.

  • What is the messiest job you can think of?
  • What is the smelliest job you can think of?
  • What is the worst job in the world?

When Jesus washed his disciples’ feet he was doing a mess, smelly and unpleasant job.  It was the sort of job slaves or servants did.  Jesus gives us an example of being willing to serve people by doing grotty jobs.  How can you serve other people including the other people in your home?
