Firm Roots

Firm Roots Cancer Support is a Christian organisation which offers prayer, spiritual and practical support to people affected by cancer, as well as to family and friends supporting them. Firm Roots started in Bristol in June 2012 and is now launching at St John the Baptist Church, Burscough.

This ‘Cancer Prayer Support Group’ meet every first Tuesday of the month and will include tea, cake, friendship and prayer. The group is for anyone affected by cancer, including family and friends supporting them, professionals who work in oncology and anyone who would like to come and pray for others. Everyone is very welcome. Please also contact us with prayer requests if you are unable to come along to the meeting.

Firm Roots Retreat Days will also take place in West Lancs, during 2014. These will be quiet days for anyone affected by cancer, as well as loved ones supporting them, and will include space for prayer and reflection, as well as friendship and encouragement.

Over the next few months, Firm Roots will be linking with West Lancs CVS to recruit and train volunteers to offer practical support to people living in the local community who are going through cancer treatment. This might include support such as meal delivery, ironing and gardening.

Macmillan Cancer Support have kindly agreed to provide some free training for people who want to be involved in this ministry. Training sessions will also run on prayer and healing ministry, and these will take place in St John’s Church Hall between March and June 2014.
