David's Update from 5th June:

Dear Friends

I have had a great deal of sympathy with the quote from Homer Simpson in the cartoon opposite.  In the last fortnight I have had to learn a new set of video editing skills using new software and also become adept at using OBS (Online Broadcasting System) in order to prepare for our transition to running our worship on YouTube.  There have been times when my head has hurt! I have tried to cram new information into my brain and whole load of old stuff has been pushed out!

I do wonder as we move out of lockdown whether some of the old stuff in our heads will be pushed out.  I suspect it won’t be simply a case of going ‘back’ to normal but instead we will need to discover a ‘new’ normal.  So increased home working, greater respect for the natural world and an ongoing appreciation of ‘key workers’ could all be part of the ‘new’ normal.  I certainly feel that continuing to offer some form of worship online may well be part of our ‘new’ normal.

Please do continue to give feedback about your experiences of our online worship and Zoom Sunday morning brews!  Together let’s discover the ‘new’ that the Lord wants us to embrace and be prepared for some of the ‘old’ stuff to get pushed out.

With love and prayers

David

IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT OUR ONLINE WORSHIP

Sunday Worship:

Following some successful experiments, we are planning to develop our Online worship provision.

This Sunday 7 June we will be offering the following:

Live streamed worship via YouTube at 10.00am

The worship will be streamed on our church’s YouTube Channel.  To watch, simply click this link https://www.youtube.com/SJBBurscough to get to our channel, then click on the video for 7th June 2020.  Alternatively, find YouTube on the internet (https://www.youtube.com/) and search for the SJBBurscough YouTube Channel.

The advantage of using YouTube is that the picture and sound quality is vastly better than Zoom and we can make it accessible to more people.  The content will be mostly be the same as our 11.00am Zoom service.

We will also offer worship via Zoom at 11.00am

To join this meeting, use the Zoom details that have been previously circulated (the details can also be found if you login to My ChurchSuite).

Then online refreshments via Zoom at 11.40am

Following on from the successful experiment over the last fortnight, we will use the break out rooms for an ‘online brew’ following the service.  Those who have watched the YouTube live streamed worship will also be able to join us for refreshments at 11.40am.  Simply make yourself a brew and login to Zoom using the details that have been previously been circulated (Zoom details can also be found if you login to My ChurchSuite).

Sunday online service structure for 7th June

10.00am – Live Streamed Worship Service on YouTube

11.00am – Worship Service via Zoom

11.40am – Online refreshments via Zoom (same login details as the 11am service and you can join at 11.40am)

We will then review people’s feedback about offering worship on these two platforms and then make a decision about the way ahead.

Please contact me if you would like more details or if you need the login info:

Sunday Worship - Help Needed:

We would love to have some people willing to help read the Bible or lead the prayers as part of our YouTube Online Worship.  All we need is people to video themselves with a smart phone or tablet (filmed landscape please) either reading that Sunday’s Bible reading or leading our prayers (the prayers should be no longer than 3 mins long).  Once these are recorded we will need you to upload them to our church Dropbox folder.

If you feel that you can cope with the ‘technology’ then we would be delighted to have you volunteer for this important ministry.  Please contact Mel Critchley mel.critchley@stjohns-burscough.org and let us know if you are happy to lead prayers, do the Bible reading or both.  Once we have got the volunteers we will put a rota together so you know when you need to make your video recording.

Live Stream Midweek Worship:

Jen and Pete Short are also continuing to offer live midweek sung worship on a Tuesday evening at 8pm, The video will remain on the YouTube channel, so if 8pm doesn't work for you, you can watch it at your convenience.

The livestream can be accessed from 7.50pm each Tuesday, at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG_h0eWr_oUB5GtQLDHsDbQ

Subscribe to this YouTube channel to receive alerts as new videos are posted.

Danny Abraham - Bishops Advisory Panel:

On Monday 8th June Danny will be having some very important interviews as he continues to explore if ordination is part of God’s plan for his life.  Please do pray for Danny and Georgia this week.

Chris Neilson - New Curate:

This month Chris Neilson will become our new Curate.  We are organising a welcome party for Chris and his family via Zoom.  We will have a Zoom party on Sunday 28 June at 5.00pm to welcome Chris, Laura, Barnie, Caleb and Ben.  Please make every effort to be part of this welcome event.  We suggest you organise some ‘party food’ in your household and we will eat together online.

We will also do an interview with Chris and then organise people into zoom breakout rooms and Chris will do his best to get round some of the rooms.  We will then come together for some games activities and a quiz hosted by ‘Bob Bobbington’!  It would be great if as many people as possible could be part of this welcome event for Chris and his family.

You can sign up for this event via Church Suite or click the link below

It would be lovely if folk could send Chris and his family a welcome to St John’s card.  These can be sent to

The Space

On Wednesday 10th June at 8.00pm we are delighted to be reintroducing ‘The SPACE’, our monthly creative prayer and relaxation gathering.  The SPACE is a wonderful way of relaxing, unwinding, encountering God and experiencing wholeness.  By using creativity, relaxation and time for reflection the SPACE offers the opportunity to take time out from our busy and at times stressful world.  The Space is wonderfully hosted by Vicki Downey and Sue Hodgkins.

NOTE:  If you are planning on being part of this SPACE session you will need two saucers, some dried pasta and/or dried rice and a fork for the opening activity!

Online Family Pyjama Praise Party

On Friday 19th June at 6:00pm, we invite you to join us for an Online Pyjama Praise Party.  The content will be aimed at families with primary aged children, but ‘big kids’ are welcome too.  The event will be live streamed via YouTube, so put the date in your diary and watch this space for further information.

Local Houses of Prayer

A number of you will have watched the beautiful UK Blessing video where Christians from around the UK sing a blessing over our country.  The link to the video is below.

Previously Circulated Information:

My ChurchSuite Profile Pictures:

For all who are signed up to My ChurchSuite, it would be fantastic if you could upload a profile picture of yourself to your My ChurchSuite profile (it doesn’t have to be as cheesy as this one), so that both the staff team and other church members can put faces to names.  This would be particularly helpful to our new members of staff and congregation who are still getting to know people.

To do this, simply login to your My Church Suite account and click on My Details, where you should be able to either take a photo or upload one from your device.

For more information, or if you require assistance with this task, please contact Jennie Short who will be happy to give you a call back to run through it.

Church Calling Plan:

We have slightly adapted our calling plan so that everyone who is registered on Church Suite will receive a phone call from Church every three weeks.  For more information, contact:
