David's Update from 12th June:

Dear Friends

Change is in the air!

You will be aware that lockdown restrictions are easing; more shops are opening, travel for exercise is allowed and some interaction is allowed with people outside your household.  The regulations for churches are also changing (more details below).

You might be excited about the easing of lockdown or it may cause you a measure of anxiety. As we continue to move towards the ‘new’ normal we can take great comfort from the fact that, as we live with change and uncertainty, the love of God, his goodness and grace are constants in life.

As the hymn ‘Abide With Me’ puts it, “Thou who changest not, abide with me”

With love and prayers

This Sunday 14 June we will be offering the following:

Please note the new times:

* A worship service via Zoom at 10.00am

Please contact me if you would like the login details to join in:

Change 2 - Chris Neilson - new curate:

This month Chris Neilson will become our new Curate.  We are organising a welcome party for Chris and his family via Zoom.  We will have a Zoom party on Sunday 28th June at 5.00pm to welcome Chris, Laura, Barnie, Caleb and Ben.  Please make every effort to be part of this welcome event.  We suggest you organise some ‘party food’ in your household and we will eat together online.

We will also do an interview with Chris and then organise people into Zoom breakout rooms and Chris will do his best to get round some of the rooms.  We will then come together for some games activities and a quiz.  It would be great if as many people as possible could be part of this welcome event for Chris and his family.

You can sign up for this event via Church Suite or click the link below

Change 3 - Opening Church for Funerals and Private Prayer:

You may be aware that that lockdown restrictions for churches are easing from Monday 15th June.  From this date churches have the option of opening for private prayer and also for funerals.  We have talked through our plans with the staff team and the church wardens and we have made the following decisions regarding the easing of lockdown with regard to St John’s.

From 15th June we will make church available for funerals, we will follow all the required guidelines with regard to hand washing, social distancing, numbers attending cleaning etc.  Our plan is to focus initially on being able to conduct funerals in Church and we will then consider opening church for private prayer.

Our thought is that we will initially open church on Tuesday morning for people to be able to come and pray.  We haven’t set a date for when we will open on a Tuesday but we will communicate this date through our Church Updates.

Change 4 - YouTube Worship - photos wanted

As part of our online worship on YouTube we would love to have a short section in the service where we show photos of congregation members.  We would love you to send us images that show what you have been doing that week.  It could be you out exercising, at work, binge watching a box set on Netflix, eating a meal, decorating… almost anything.

Simply email or WhatsApp your photos to me and we will try and include you in the photo montage.  It would be handy if you could just send a one-line explanation about the photo.

Please be aware that YouTube is a global online service so do think carefully about whether you want to include photographs of your children.  If you send us a picture, we will assume full consent for that picture to become part of our YouTube video.

Online Family Pyjama Praise Party

On Friday 19th June at 6:00pm, we invite you to join us for a spectacular Online Pyjama Praise Party via YouTube Live!

Grab your PJ’s and snacks, then come and join us from the comfort of your own home, for a fun time of praise and worship.  All content will be aimed at primary aged children and their families, but all ‘big kids’ are welcome too!

Simply click the link above to go straight there, or go to ‘youtube.com/SJBBurscough’ to find it on our church channel.

ChurchSuite Profile Pictures:

For all who are signed up to My ChurchSuite, it would be fantastic if you could upload a profile picture of yourself to your My ChurchSuite profile (it doesn’t have to be as cheesy as this one), so that both the staff team and other church members can put faces to names.  This would be particularly helpful to our new members of staff and congregation who are still getting to know people.

To do this, simply login to your My Church Suite account and click on My Details, where you should be able to either take a photo or upload one from your device.

For more information, or if you require assistance with this task, please contact Jennie Short who will be happy to give you a call back to run through it.
