Church Chat

As a response to the outbreak of Coronavirus, the staff team at St John’s has been doing some thinking. How can we best support people who may be self isolating? Church – based groups have been cancelled and there will be no services in church, just church opening times for prayer on Tuesdays from 10-12 and Sundays from 10-12. (Although that may soon be stopping as well). Clearly, visiting in people’s homes is not advisable so we have launched a service called Church Chat.

You may want to be a recipient who would welcome that regular phone contact – a friendly voice to listen and chat.

You may want to be a volunteer – someone who could offer some supportive time regularly on the telephone to someone who may feel very alone right now .  You may have questions – there is a short video which seeks to address FAQs about this.

Also, please don’t be put off by needing to do a self declaration – we timed it  – takes less than 5 minutes! We need to follow best practices, especially in these disrupted times.

Some people have already signed up to be a volunteer and a recipient!  If you would like to sign up please email jeannie.holman@stjohns-burscough.org. Church Chat is a local initiative organised by St John the Baptist, Burscough.  The scheme is staffed and run by volunteers who are members of St John the Baptist Church.

We just hope that this will be helpful and will reflect God’s love for us all.
