Letter from the wardens about the interregnum

March 2015

Interregnum

As you know Richard, Jo, Rachel and Joshua will be leaving us at the end of June to begin a new chapter in the parish of Ashtead, Surrey.

Richard’s last service will be a combined morning service on Sunday 21st June at 10.30am at St John’s church.  Following the service there will be a shared lunch at the church hall where everyone will have the opportunity to spend time with Richard, Jo, Rachel and Joshua before they prepare to leave.

The wardens have asked the family what they would like as a parting gift and after consideration they have requested that a gift of money would be very much appreciated to help them to carpet and curtain their new home.

If you would like to donate towards the family’s gift please use the envelopes that will be in the West End. If you could kindly identify the envelope with ‘Richard’s leaving present’ and hand to a warden or Peter Dorling, that would be very much appreciated.

Richard’s licensing in his new parish will take place on the evening of Wednesday 8th July 2015.   Richard appreciates the distance involved and understands the difficulty this presents.  However, if anyone would like to attend you will be most welcome and Richard and Jo will try to arrange accommodation if required.  If you would like to attend please let Richard know.

A small team, elected from the PCC, is currently working on a new Parish Profile that will be presented at a meeting with the Archdeacon Peter Bradley on 14th May.  The PCC have already taken advice from the diocese on when, and how, to advertise our vacancy and the care of the Vicarage during the interregnum, and once these decisions have been made we will let you know.

The Wardens – Mark Taylor, Wendy Dixon

Dear Friends

I do understand that it can be an anxious time when an interregnum is announced and then when it begins.  Please be assured that all will be well.  In terms of the spiritual direction of the church, Richard has trained me well, and I feel, alongside Brian, Al, Joanna, Christine, Jean and Jeannie, able to lead the church through the interregnum.  In terms of the practical management of St John’s, we have an amazing group of wardens and deputy wardens, PCC and staff team, who will all oversee the day-to-day running of the church.  So we are in good hands.  Finally, God knows the woman or man that He wants to succeed Richard, and He is already laying the ground for that person to come.  So please be praying for whoever she or he is, unknown as yet to us but known to God.  Pray for the PCC and, in due course, the interview panel, that they may discern and appoint God’s choice.  With my love and prayers,

Ian Jones, Curate
