Congegational Letter February 2014

Posted by Richard Jones on 22/02/2014 08:39

Dear friends

Thank you for your continuing partnership and prayers in our shared ministry – there is so much to thank God for in recent weeks. For example, how Gods’ love is being shared and deepened through the launch of Wool ‘n’ Chat and Firm Roots; the continuing ministry of ACTS; Fellaship; Marthas’ Morning; Women’s Fellowship; Youth and Adult Alpha; deepening ministry in three Primary schools and Priory High School; Food Bank; the Debt ministry and the expanding pastoral ministry.

Thank you for your faithful witness, active participation and financial support in God’s work.

I write to update you about the following:

New Fourth Sunday Teaching Programme

To help us in the journey of discipleship and to engage the often large number of visitors who attend baptism services at 11am, the PCC have agreed to my request to make a change to the pattern of our teaching programme.

Across every congregation, on the fourth Sunday of every month, we will break from the current teaching series to consider a ‘one off’ topic/aspect of the Christian faith that is intentionally designed to engage everyone including visitors. I hope that these talks will address questions/issues that many have, stimulate thinking and help to nurture faith.

This month, we begin by considering the question “Can I Know God Personally-Really?” In March we will consider “The Kingdom of God – Pie in the Sky or Right here, Right Now!”

Lent

To help us to journey together through Lent, the following programme has been devised:

1) Ash Wednesday, 5th March at 7.30pm

Service of Ashing, Holy Communion & Healing

2) Sunday teaching programme entitled “The Journey To Freedom” that will conclude on Easter Sunday

3) Lenten Journey

A short personal devotional booklet will be made available to everyone at the end of February. This will accompany a Lenten theme that will be considered in the mid-week Tuesday service. After each Tuesday service, a simple lunch will be offered to help encourage community and reflection on our journey through Lent. More information will be available on the noticeboards in the West End and church website.

The Lenten booklet is intended for personal use but as previously agreed with housegroup leaders, it will be the foundation for housegroup gatherings during Lent.

Consideration of the theme in this simple booklet and Tuesday services is complementary to our teaching programme on Sundays.

4) Holy Week

Information about Holy Week will be given on a separate flyer (and church website) that will be released after half-term holidays. This includes a visit from the Dean of Liverpool Cathedral, Ven. Pete Wilcox, who will preach at the 9am service on Palm Sunday.

Joint Morning Service on Mothering Sunday

Finally a reminder that there will be a joint service at 10am on Sunday 30 March, Mothering Sunday, for all ages.

Advance Notice Annual Parochial Church Meeting

The APCM will be held on Tuesday 29th April at 7.30pm.

Thank you for your continuing prayers and support for myself, the staff and leadership team.

In His Love

Richard

Vicar
